Wii wows with Star Wars light sabre

LucasArts has revealed that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be coming to Nintendo's Wii, allowing gamers to live out their Jedi fantasies by wielding the Wii Remote as a light sabre.

Due for release in Spring 2008, the game casts players as Darth Vader's secret apprentice and is promising to introduce a storyline that will unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy.

The story is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope during which the newly formed Empire exerts its control over the galaxy.

Game players will assist Darth Vader in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi, and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

As well as slicing their way through the game with the Wii light sabre, players can use the Nunchuk controller to execute a range of Force powers.

"The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed because the console's motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life. We have worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to let you unleash the Force," said Jim Ward, president of LucasArts.

"The combination of our great story, memorable characters and the new technology will deliver something Star Wars fans have never seen before, in addition to attracting newcomers to gaming, something that is very important to us."

The Wii version will also include an exclusive duel mode in which players can compete head-to-head with friends to determine the better Jedi.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will also be coming to Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo DS.
