SEGA Details NiGHTS Transformations, Online

Publisher SEGA presented new details today about the different masks in NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams and the game's online functionality.

The acrobatic jester NiGHTS will have access to three unique transformations that fall under the umbrella term of Persona Masks. The Dolphin Mask will allow NiGHTS to swim underwater and discover new paths; the Rocket Mask will turn NiGHTS into a rocket for increased speed; and the Dragon Mask will transform NiGHTS into a a dragon that is unaffected to wind and gravity. It is unknown how NiGHTS will acquire these Persona Masks during gameplay or how long their added abilities will last.

Journey of Dreams will use the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to expand upon the Artificial Life (A-Life) feature from the original NiGHTS game. Players will be able to capture, raise and combine the inhabitants of Nightopia, and then share their virtual creations with friends via the Internet. Two offline players will also be able to compete in the title's multiplayer mode.

Brawl: Shadow Moses Island

The official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Web site revealed the new Shadow Moses Island stage based on the area of the same name from the Metal Gear Solid series.

A spotlight will roam around the stage and cause an "!" to appear above the spotted character's head - a convention of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. The large pillars containing on the left and right can be destroyed, too. Director Masahiro Sakurai commented, "Those who aren't skilled at launching foes upward may want to be proactive about attacking them."

Three types of Metal Gears - the enormous war machines central to the Metal Gear Solid series - will also appear in the background. Players can expect to see models REX, RAY and an unspecified newer Metal Gear model, although Sakurai did not state if the Metal Gears will have any impact on gameplay.

Another feature of Shadow Moses Island will involve Snake communicating with his comrades about his on-stage opponents. Sakurai did not state if the voice actors of Snake's comrades in Brawl are the same people from the Metal Gear Solid games. It has been confirmed, however, that David Hayter will reprise the role of Snake.
